Wren died on 30th March, 1915, after having been sent to a base hospital on the coast but it is not known if he died from wounds or from illness, both of which took their toll of the men on the Western Front; The 2nd Cornwall Light Infantry battalion was part of 82 Brigade, 27th Division, that had been holding the line around Ypres during the early months of 1915.
